Saint Muscle by Fukushima Masami (Chapter 01)

Saint Muscle, drawn by Fukushima Masami and written by Miyazaki Tsutomu, is a self-titled “Fleshbomb Masterpiece,” so I hope you’re ready for this. This first chapter (a whopping 52 pages total) is full of flexing muscles, sweating, flowers, and more flexing. There are muscles everywhere, in every frame. This manga will make you want to work out!

Fukushima Masami is called the “King of Fleshbomb” by Udagawa Takeo in Manga Zombie, and that title couldn’t be more correct. Fukushima is one of a few extreme Fleshbomb artists that throw caution to the wind and draw some insane shit. I’ve been wanting to post some of this stuff sooner, but just never had time.

Devilman by Go Nagai (Volume 04+05)

As a sort of apology for being AWOL for so long, I’m finishing up posting Devilman. The series ends incredible well, and destroyed my expectations. This series is really more in the end-of-the-world, apocalyptic vein, which caught me off guard. It starts out more in the shonen style but is something completely different by the end. Definitely a must-read.

And with Kodansha opening up shop in America, there might be some sort of chance that Devilman could get published. Usually Japanese publishers have less of an idea of what would sell in America, and instead try publishing series that were huge in Japan. Devilman would fall into this category, as it was a big hit.

The reason I was so gone for a while is because I have a new addition to my family. “Maybe” was brought home from the kennel on September 8th. She’s an adorable B/W border collie mix. Unfortunately, since we brought her home, she’s developed pneumonia, and we’ve been trying to bring her back to health all this time. She’s feeling much better now, though she still has a nasty cough.

Second volume, worse than the first. Akira has these evil eyebrows now, a symptom of the devil power inside him. I love how the ethical compass changes in this manga. The usual good vs. evil dichotomy in shonen manga is completely subverted here. It’s all evil. The reader almost doesn’t care if Devilman is the one to win.

Anyways, you can expect abnormally proportioned characters, round boobs, and fighting. Here’s volume 2.

Surprised? I thought I’d post this to hold everyone over until the next DKP chapter. Anonymous K (lovely editor of lots of Kago stuffs, including our’s) passed these on to me to post. He did the translation and editing on a few of the volumes.

Anyways, here we have the beginning of the Devilman saga (a total of five volumes). This evil story by Go Nagai was originally published by Verotik in the USA. They published three issues (that’s right, large, floppy comic book issues) before giving it up. That they gave it a chance is pretty amazing. I think in their print run, they didn’t even get to the real Devilman, as he doesn’t show up until the end of the first volume.

Chapter four, enter more weirdness. Crazy dream sequences melding into real life. What is going on?! I don’t know either!!

Enjoy the chapter, we have one more left and the crazy journey of “Human Clock” will be over. Next up we have another chapter of Panda Love, and a few interim humor pieces from Karasawa Nawoki and Ebisu Yoshikazu (don’t worry, these are weird too). Then we will embark on another fucked-up mind trip from the sixties in the form of “The Parasite” by Saburo Tsuyuki. More on all of this later!
